Family owned supermarket group Bernardi’s, have this week announced their decision to open a new store in Wagga Wagga in late October, expanding their current Central West footprint into the Riverina. Taking over the recently closed Tolland IGA, the Bernardi’s new value-focused shopping destination will employ in excess of 50 people which is a major coup for the community.
While the new Bernardi’s Wagga centre undergoes a million dollar upgrade, Bernardi’s CEO Joseph Bernardi says around 50 jobs are available and he encourages anyone interested to apply.
“We’re looking for award level employees, right up to management positions and offer comprehensive training from day one. Whether you’re a school student, looking for a career change or even a mature aged job, we have some great opportunities to develop your career in the retail industry.”
The focus for the new Bernardi’s supermarket will largely be on providing an affordable fresh offer, with over half of the store footprint dedicated to a fruit and vegetable market, meat, grab and go deli as well as a bakery.
“We are on the hunt to find a dynamic team who will successfully lead our new Bernardi’s store in Wagga,” says Joseph.
“While there is certainly no shortage of choice when it comes to grocery shopping here, as an independent retailer our point of difference is that by dealing directly with suppliers, we can cut out the middle man and pass the excellent savings to our customers,”
“We pride ourselves on being competitive on price, and when you combine that with a fresh market-style fruit and vegetable offer, comprehensive grocery lines and convenient location with a large on-grade car park, we really hope the people of Wagga find a place for us in their regular shop.”
“Our new team will be part of an exciting new chapter for Bernardi’s, and we look forward to rejuvenating this centre and creating a new offer for this community and surrounding suburbs” concludes Joseph.
Bernardi’s Wagga will be the fifth supermarket for the group, with the first store opening in Forbes in 1969 as a fruit market run by Tony Bernardi, who had spent much of the previous decade selling fruit and vegetables out of the back of his truck.
Almost 50 years later Tony – along with his three sons David, Peter and Joseph – operate affordable independent supermarkets in Bathurst, Blayney, Forbes and West Wyalong as well as two stand-alone discount variety stores, Discount Daves.
The Bernardi Group employs over 400 staff and pride themselves on offering a unique shopping experience for customers of the Central West and Riverina, with an emphasis on providing great everyday prices, supporting local suppliers and the communities they operate within.
