Pool certification for sale and rental properties has been postponed for twelve months to allow owners sufficient time to get their pools certified.
The NSW Office of Local Government has given owners of swimming pools and spas until 29 April 2015 to get a certificate of compliance.
Real estate representatives have expressed that they would like more time to ensure pools are compliant before selling or leasing homes.
Feedback from Council officers has indicated that it can take up to three months to issue a compliance certificate due to the high failure rate of pool inspections. It is also evident that the number of inspection officers is not sufficient to meet the demand for inspections in the initial proposed time period.
The extension should now allow ample time for the estimated 300,000 pools and spas in NSW to be inspected and compliant.
