Under the NSW Residential Tenancy Act landlords can seek reimbursement from a tenant for the cost of water consumption during a tenancy. The property must comply with the water efficiency measures required. Then, in order to seek water reimbursement, the tenant must be sent an invoice for the consumption within three months of the issue date of the water bill. Therefore, if you currently pay the water bills for your rental property and would like to seek reimbursement for the consumption, please ensure you forward the invoice to our office within the required time frame. Please also note that we are required to give the tenants at least 21 days from receipt, to pay the invoice.
